It was far away, in the desert of Mount Athos, where The Holy Father chose to live as a hermit. The place was secluded and the ground gnarled. It would be difficult for everyone to suspect that a human being could live there, alone, only with God. And what is his home? It is an impromptu hut that can be easily taken apart by a strong wind. It is in this hut that he has been worshipping and praying for everyone, for the rulers, for God’s plain human beings and for the godless and faithless people. He has been also praying for the patients and for the penniless people, the youngsters, the prisoners, and especially, for our Holy Church that shepherds and is shepherded the Christians. He has been praying even for the heretics who get away from the Orthodox Church. In other words, he has been praying for every single human being.

Pilgrims who visit Mount Athos, motivated by the desire for their spiritual benefit, located him in a miraculous way. And it is in this place where every time the pilgrims visit the Holy Father, they are taught and get skilled spiritually by him. On the other hand, they didn’t ignore the various needs he may have had. One of these needs is the repair of the Father’s hut roof. So they always have given him whatever each one could afford in a very discreet way. Even though the Holy Father didn’t want to get these sums at first, he finally accepted their offers, having something in mind –(who knows what exactly)? This event was revealed recently. And can you imagine how? He sent us a sealed envelope via a trustful person, a faithful Christian man. The envelope contained… 10.000 € (euros) for charities, under the condition to remain an anonymous donor! That’s what we have done.

And what is Father’s food? He only eats dried bread. His old hut has been incomplete. But God will be keeping it erected. His clear heart is being flamed only by one expectation. This expectation that the Apostle Paul wrote: “He has been longing the town which has the keystone, whose (town) craftsman and creator is God” (Heb, 11, 10). Full of faith and steadfast loyalty, the Father is looking forward to the heavenly town with its steadfast and eternal basis, whose craftsman and creator is God Himself.

Our most pious Holy Father, please don’t stop praying for us, for our souls’ saving, for doing the best deeds we can on the earth, as long as our heart beats.
